Lovely pictures. I cannot take good flower pictures. If you don't mind my asking, what lens do you use? Do you use a tripod? Sorry to be so prosaic.

Nothing prosaic in it. As taking photos for me is just documenting facts with a personal emphasis on some details, I also like to speak about facts. I use a very small Nikon Coolpix P5100 compact camera with its in-built Nikkor lens. I used to have more sophisticated cameras and also a tripod, and Kata still uses them for photographing the garden (she has a professional Nikon D-300 camera), but for several years I have enjoyed much more to have this small camera always in my pocket and to take pictures whenever I want – in change I willingly renounce the more sophisticated possibilities of professional cameras. The above ones were taken yesterday evening while walking with the dogs on the local Mount Calvary.

When taking flower pictures, I always focus on one single attractive point of the flower, and let all the rest of the plant serve as a background to this detail. This approach of composition quite often works.
