Velikie veliki

Do you still remember the mysterious Order of the Knights of the Sun and the Moon who since the centuries of the Gesta Romanorum went on two wheels in front of the army, and were buried with their beloved bike under the walls of Château-Gaillard, the castle of Richard the Lionheart? Whose coat of arms was preserved in the most prominent 15th-century books of nobility, and whose wire-haired steeds were captured by the brush of Van Eyck, Botticelli and Holbein?

Well, the Knights finally stepped out of the thousand years of obscurity. Thanks to the invitation of Boris Indrikov – who, as you might remember, was the first to translate the article on their discovery from the single available copy of Scientific Archevelogy, also completing it with further scholarly comments –, they presented themselves in the museum center of the Moscow State University of Humanities the day before yesterday at four in the afternoon. After a torchlight parade they held a tournament, drew by axe the meat, by goblets the wine of Château-Gaillard and played its music without stopping:

Great Bikes
A artistic-historical project by Boris Indrikov.
Opening on 17 May at 16.00
The exhibition is open from 18 May to 10 June from 10 to 17 except Sunday and Monday.

Boris Indrikov says this on the exhibition:

“The project “Great Bikes”, like all good things on earth, is the fruit of love, of the love to the Bicycle.

The bicycle, the simplest and perhaps greatest invention of human civilization, was also the fruit of love, of the love to freedom. Wanderlust, the call of the distance and the joy of speed all came later. In the beginning there was the desire for freedom, for communion with the world, without intermediaries – just You and the Earth!

And then… it is also impossible to resist the beauty of the bicycle. The graceful curves of the steer, the living geometry of the frame, the brilliance of the leather seat… The two wheels which forever follow each other like the Sun and the Moon on the sky… The bicycle is worthy of the highest art. Through art, man expresses his love to the world and in each moment of creativity discovers it again. Discovering the bicycle means looking with completely new eyes on this world. This is what the project “Velikie Veliki” is about.”

“The project “Velikie Veliki” began in 2006. The work continued for three years, and culminated in the writing of the article “Sensational findings in the fortress of Château-Gaillard”, published in May 2009 on the internet (http://indrikov.com/richard.html, English translation: http://riowang.blogspot.com/2009/05/in-velox-libertas.html). In the past two years it was read by almost half million people all around the world. Its English, Spanish and Hungarian translations were quoted in large international portals.

Opening the exhibition “Velikie Veliki” within the walls of the university also means a new milestone in the history of the project, and highlights its educational aspects. One of the tasks of this exhibition is to arouse the students’ interest in history through the presentation of a historical hoax. The invented objects should encourage the future researchers to a more attentive study of the details of real archaeological findings. Scientific-sounding text should inspire students to write more reasoned scientific articles. It should teach them not to succumb to manipulation, to control and analyze information, to avoid becoming hostage of quasi-scientific experiments. This exhibition serves as a “vaccination” against pseudoscience.”
