Dear Sirs,

Gentili Sigg., Mi scuso e ringrazio per l’invito ad una così importante Esposizione d’Arte, ma ci ho ripensato. Non credo che l’Italia abbia bisogno di me per essere rappresentata, e io mi sentirei come un gatto ad una esposizione canina, o viceversa. Se la mia vita dipendesse da questo Stato che ufficialmente mi invita, il mio recapito sarebbe c/o Stazione Centrale. È all’Estero che ho trovato casualmente e fortunatamente la dignità del lavoro, il rispetto e l’apprezzamento per la qualità e l’impegno, e la condizione più importante per pensare e produrre: La Libertà. In attesa che questo pittoresco Paese si decida ad attuare e rispettare i Principi e e Diritti della sua Splendida Costituzione, distintamente saluto e ringrazio. Dear Sirs, I apologize and thank you for the invitation to such an important Art Exhibition, but I’ve changed my mind. I don’t believe Italy needs me for being represented, and I’d feel like a cat at a dog show or viceversa. If my life depended on this State which officially invites me, then my address would be c/o Central Railway Station. It’s Abroad that I found, by chance and fortunately, the dignity of labour, the respect, the appreciation for quality and commitment, and the most important condition to think and produce: Freedom. Looking forward that this picturesque Country decides to enforce and respect the Principles and Rights of its Wonderful Constitution, I remain yours faithfully and thank you.
